1. Compulsory courses on the  Master’s Program in Business Administration and compulsory courses on the Doctoral Program in Business Administration (for doctorate students who do not hold a Master’s degree). These courses are  taught in English:

  • Research Project  – 30h/a

This course aims to present the foundations of research design and skills for preparing a research project. It is a mandatory and introductory discipline, which will present an overview of scientific methodologies, starting with epistemology and covering different phases of research design, such as research question and theoretical gaps identification, literature review, qualitative and quantitative research methods, as well as data collection and analysis. In addition, we will address other topics such as the potential for replicability, ethical issues in quantitative and qualitative methods, databases, and scientific dissemination

  • Quantitative Research Methods  – 30h/a

LEARNING OBJECTIVES • To enable students to analyze data using quantitative approaches in research • To enable students to use statistical inference techniques and models in the research process • To enable students to read and report quantitative outcomes in research CONTENT 1. Introduction to Statistical Inference 2. Principles of Sampling 3. Parameter estimation • Point and interval estimation 4. Hypothesis tests • Types of errors • Tests for parameters of a population • Tests for comparing two populations • Analysis of variance 5. Correlation and linear regression • Linear correlation. • Estimation and testing of parameters in linear regression 6. Principles of Multiple Regression

  • Qualitative Research Methods  – 30h/a

This course is introductory to qualitative research methods. Students will be exposed to the most traditional research approaches in management using qualitative research methods. In addition to research methods, the course briefly introduces other aspects related to scientific knowledge building, such as ontology and epistemology. The course address theoretical and practical perspectives in conducting qualitative studies in management.

2. Compulsory courses on the Doctoral Program in Business Administration (for doctorate students who either do, or do not have a Master’s degree). These courses are  taught in English:

  • Epistemology  – 30h/a

This course aims to give students a grounding in the various epistemological perspectives underpinning social science research so they understand how these perspectives influence research design, methodology, methods, data analysis and theory construction.

3. Elective courses for the Master's and Doctoral Programs that are taught in English*:

4. Research Seminar  – 1st and 2nd semesters. These seminars are usually taught in Portuguese:
Professors and researchers from FGV and other institutions present academic papers in different areas. After the presentations, a discussion is held with the participants.
